3D Geometric (white-on-white) - This multifaceted geometric design is a free standing three dimensional piece. It is made of sixteen 20-sided icosahedrons, which perch precariously on just 2 triangle faces. Note how the shadows play off of the white to give the illusion of shades of gray. Lobster Boats (white-on-white) - Inspired by the photographs of EJ Stack of New Harbor, Maine, this composition depicts a typical scene from the Pine Tree State, which supplies 90% of America's lobster.
Daryl's eye for detail, from the grain in the dock wood to the droop of the pine boughs, shines through in this peaceful setting. Click on the images for a larger view. Actual Size 14" x 12 "x 1.5".
Ace High - The staples of a casino gaming table are shown in realistic detail. Daryl uses an inlay technique to apply colors within the royal garments. The king's hair and beard are sculpted from a single piece of paper. Click on the images for a larger view. Actual Size: 32" x 20 "x 1.75".
Neuron/Receptor Activity (ivory-on-cream) - Daryl combines her artistic ability and scientific background to capture electrical stimulation from the nerve cell body and its effect on receptor activity. Actual Size 32" x 34" x 2.5" .
Sea Creatures (white-on-white) - a collection of flora and fauna from the sea includes an octopus, a starfish, and other marine life. Actual Size: 32" x 20 "x 1.5".
Note the texture of the starfish body. Each ampulla is made from a single carving.
Sea Creatures Collection - (white-on-white) - the block of four scenes below are smaller versions of the sea theme from Sea Creatures. Each contains a highly detailed piece. Whether tiny hairs on the lobster tail or each trunk ridge on a seahorse body, Daryl has individually sculpted each aspect of the creature's anatomy. Actual Size: 14" x 12 "x 1.5".
Feeding Time (white-on-white) - It's feeding time for three baby robins, as mama sits above the nest with a fresh worm. The nest is a realistic version of one that robins naturally build. Actual Size 19.25" x 16.5" x 1.5"
Squirrel Friend (white-on-white) - This solitary squirrel sits atop a tree stump, munching on a tasty acorn. See the detail photos to appreciate the layers of fur in the squirrel's body and tail. Actual Size 19.25" x 16.5" x 1.5".
Hibiscus - A butterfly rests on a glistening petal. The details shine through on these two species of the beautiful tropical plant. Actual Size 12.25" x 9.5" x 1.25"
Zinnias - these sturdy plants provide nectar for a lone bee, while froggie peeks out from the leaves. Actual Size 13.5" x 16.5" x 1.5"
Jumping for Joy was inspired by Daryl's love of horses and equestrian events. The detail in the horse's mane creates a life-like softness.
Framed in shadow box style, the watercolored background extends into the walls of the white frame, to provide an unbroken field of view and greater depth. Actual Size 17 1/2 " x 14 5/8" x 1 7/8
Great Egrets was inspired by the wildlife near Daryl's home at the New Jersey shore. What makes this piece most unique is that it is a combination of both watercolor and paper sculpture.
The sky and water are painted on the background. The egrets, heron, and reeds are dimensional pieces that are also painted. Actual size 11" x 14 "x 1.5"
Zemo the Clown - offers flowers and a smile in this whimsical portrait of a circus entertainer.
